What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences.
When something overwhelming happens, it can feel like it stays “stuck” in your mind and body. EMDR helps your brain reprocess those experiences so they no longer feel as intense or triggering.
Who can benefit from EMDR?
EMDR may be helpful if you are experiencing:
-
Trauma or distressing memories
-
Anxiety or panic
-
Flashbacks or intrusive thoughts
-
Negative self-beliefs
-
Grief and loss
-
Emotional triggers that feel hard to control
How does EMDR work?
EMDR uses guided techniques to help your brain process difficult experiences in a safe and structured way.
During sessions, you’ll briefly focus on a memory while engaging in gentle, guided movements or tapping. This helps your brain “unstick” the memory so it becomes less overwhelming over time.
What can I expect?
EMDR is often a shorter-term, focused therapy, but the number of sessions varies depending on your history and goals.
Some people notice shifts relatively quickly, while others benefit from a longer process. We will move at a pace that feels safe and right for you.
